About

Claudia Bornholdt, Dean of the Edwards College at Coastal Carolina University, introduces the #edwardslive initiative.

Edwards Live is a new initiative promoting connection and unity among faculty and students within CCU’s Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, specifically in times of unexpected disruptions in the regular academic schedule. The Edwards College places the highest value on creativity and innovation, and in the wake of interruptions, Edwards Live highlights the college’s commitment to these core qualities. Inspiration through community is especially important in times of external stress and uncertainty (like pandemics, hurricanes and floods), and this initiative is about resilience and strength. Edwards Live stands up, adapts, and keeps moving. Join us.

Four key branches of Edwards Live are Modicum, View from the Desk, Cultural Arts from a Distance, and Voices and Visions.

Modicum

Modicum is a series of dialogues, videos, and updates that provide Edwards College-specific information. This series translates the official updates and information from Coastal Advisory to their impacts on our college.

Upcoming Events

  • Friday, March 31: Live Q+A with Edwards College students, Kaleb and Tessa on Facebook and Instagram

View from the Desk

View from the Desk (VFD) is a way for students and faculty to show our community how we work and function during this unconventional time. VFD will include brief interviews and photographs of our respective home offices that offer insight into how creative production and research continues within the Edwards community.

Contributions may include:

  • Photographs and short interviews of faculty working from home
  • Short interviews with faculty about their personal research
  • Pre-recorded faculty office or studio tours
  • Photographs and short interviews of students working from home

VFD will be posted on Twitter, Instagram, and audio will be included on-air through the WCCU radio station.

Cultural Arts from a Distance

The arts at CCU have not disappeared from the public sphere; they have simply moved to a new venue. Our goal is to show the greater community that CCU life in the arts continues and thrives online. We will use Cultural Arts from the Distance (CAD) as a glimpse of future events, a showcase of faculty and student talent, and a means of providing quality artistic experiences for audiences at home.

Contributions may include:

  • Faculty performing solo pieces, readings or performances from home
  • Students performing solo pieces, readings or performances from home
  • Faculty discuss their research through pre-recorded interviews
  • Senior students discussing their research and goals for moving forward in the arts
  • Virtual lectures and presentations from external speakers.

Like VFD, this series will be posted on Facebook, Instagram, and audio will be included on-air through our WCCU radio station.

Voices and Visions

Voices and Visions is a student-centered blog comprised of reflective written texts and accompanying images. Students in crisis mode face a wide array of challenges, and this blog offers them a way to check in with each other, share their stories, offer empathetic responses, and share a social space. Students need connection outside of the academic realm, particularly when their campus lives and relationships have been uprooted. Voices and Visions allows them to reconnect and gain a sense of unity in their otherwise unstable lives. This blog is primarily text-based but will feature visual and digital elements to accompany the written stories.

Faculty are also invited to contribute stories of their own experiences in teaching online and finding a routine in their new operation outside of campus. Students and faculty alike will benefit from learning stories of how faculty adapt to their own new circumstances.

Contributions may include:

  • Student written reflections of approximately 300-400 words
  • Accompanying images or videos
  • Faculty written reflections of approximately 300-400 words
  • Accompanying images or videos
