{"id":1202,"date":"2022-02-18T01:53:12","date_gmt":"2022-02-18T01:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/projects.ccu.press\/edwardslive\/?p=1202"},"modified":"2022-02-18T01:53:13","modified_gmt":"2022-02-18T01:53:13","slug":"kate-oestreich","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/projects.ccu.press\/edwardslive\/kate-oestreich\/","title":{"rendered":"Kate Oestreich"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Q: What is your area of specialty?<br><kbd>     <\/kbd>A:\u00a0<\/strong>I\u2019m mostly interested in 19th Century British literature written by Jane Austen, Mary Shelly, and Charlotte Bront\u00eb (not to forget Emily and Anny Bront\u00eb, George Eliot, and Charles Dickens) as well as how their novels have been adapted for both the Internet and film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: What was the title of your master\u2019s thesis or dissertation?<br><kbd>     <\/kbd>A:\u00a0<\/strong><em>Fashioning Chastity: British Marriage Plots and the Tailoring of Desire, 1789-1928<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: What is your most recent publication?<br><kbd>     <\/kbd>A:\u00a0<\/strong>My most recent publication is \u201c\u2019I Am Not an Angel\u2019: Madness and Addiction in Neo-Victorian Appropriations of\u00a0<em>Jane Eyre<\/em>.\u201d I\u2019m currently writing an article exploring a variety of filmic and digital adaptations of the Bront\u00eb sisters\u2019 novels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: What is your favorite assignment to assign?<br><kbd>     <\/kbd>A:\u00a0<\/strong>My favorite is a classic: close reading of a paragraph making heavy use of the\u00a0<em>Oxford English Dictionary<\/em>. With visual media, I do a similar exercise focusing on minute details within a single frame\u2019s\u00a0<em>mise en scene<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: What was the last book you read?<br><kbd>     <\/kbd>A:\u00a0<\/strong>Over the winter break, I discovered that the Horry County Library system does not own Kurt Vonnegut\u2019s\u00a0<em>Slaughterhouse-Five\u00a0<\/em>(1969), so I read it.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: <strong>What are your favorite events on campus?<\/strong><br>A:\u00a0<\/strong>I always enjoy the yearly tree lighting, but this year\u2019s COHFA 20th\u00a0Anniversary Open House was a stupendous showcase of CCU\u2019s talented arts and humanities students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: Where is your favorite place to eat on campus?<br><kbd>     <\/kbd>A:\u00a0<\/strong>Most of the time, I pack my lunch and eat in my office, but when I venture out, my favorite spot is Chauncey\u2019s Choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q: What do you enjoy most about CCU?<br><kbd>     <\/kbd>A:\u00a0<\/strong>I enjoy encouraging CCU students to take chances in the classroom and to believe in themselves as scholars.
