Statement

My work speaks about the difficult emotional stages of a love one with memory loss, specifically how my grandparents/parents struggles with memory loss effected my family. I am interested in the relationships between time, transition/transformation, forgetting and reappearance that occur with memory loss. A couple of years ago, I experienced my grandma and grandpa being diagnosed with Dementia and Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer that is a brain disease that cause a slow decline in the brain. Dementia is a group of conditions characterized by impairment of at least two brain functions, such as memory loss and judgment. Watching a relative slowly fall downward into an unreachable depth is emotionally traumatizing. This work is representing the connection of memory loss by attempting to portray a confusion of the mind, continuous unconscious changes, variations, and dislocations.

My work is representing different scenarios my family and I experienced while trying to assist our grandparents/parents by repairing their memories and how we saw the memory loss effect them. Creating these moments of a love one experiencing Dementia and Alzheimer’s is not to be made fun of but instead my goal is to capture the confusion of the mind. By connecting the emotional value of this serious issues to. Experiences of black outs, unconsciousness, repair, confusion, and pause moments I can speak, not only for me and my family, but for people who relate to the same experience. My use of the materials and processes in the project are linked by recurring formal concerns and through the subject matter. The subject matter of each piece determines the materials and the forms of the work. My workflow combines both 2D painting and 3D sculptural materials that is combining the rendering to produce the most detailed images. By combining 2D and 3D materials, I am bringing attention towards a love one with memory loss as a way of engaging with the audience with similar experience and by using the artwork to create a content to share a message.
